Australian funk trio daste. return to the pages of TMR with the release of their colourful new Palette EP. Previous List Picks ‘Sober’ and ‘Thinkin’ Of’ feature on the EP, as well as another swoon-worthy tune ‘Overload’. It’s slick and warbling; classic and oh-so-fresh; hazy and rhythmic. This lo-fi lounge style is seemingly executed with ease and finesse by the daste. outfit, however behind the scenes, it was a process of trial and error that led to the creation of this EP. As the group recall: “It became freeing to the group to stop narrowing our sound into one category and try every idea until we were happy. The lyrics followed suit as we drew on themes that highlighted our opinions of the music industry and our own approach.” ‘Overload’ in particular is all about “lonesome thinking” and how songwriting can be a cathartic process for over-thinkers.
